Most guitarists learn the minor pentatonic scale early on. The step from playing the scale to improvising is rarely explained.
Improvisation is the act of creating a musical idea in real time. This requires a sense of what you want to say.
Without a guiding thought, the solo loses direction. You might find yourself running up and down the scale. Space feels uncomfortable, so you fill it. Notes repeat, but they lack purpose.
In this session, we address one question: What are you trying to say?
This workshop is for guitarists who know the minor pentatonic scale and the 12-bar blues structure, but struggle to move beyond the scale shapes.
This session addresses these specific gaps:
Your solo begins without a guiding thought.
An initial idea appears but fails to develop.
Playing becomes busier when you feel insecure.
Lines do not form into recognizable phrases.
Silence feels uncomfortable, so you fill it with unnecessary notes.
By the end of the session, you will:
Start a solo with a defined musical idea.
Use rhythm as a structural tool.
Build and repeat phrases with intention.
Allow space without the urge to rush.
Recognize when a musical thought can be extended.
This is a workshop.
Each participant plays an improvisation over a 12-bar blues backing track and receives feedback.
Once everyone has taken their turn, we identify common musical patterns in the room and resolve them through shifts in your playing.
*Session will be recorded for internal reference only.

I have been playing the guitar for over three decades and teaching for most of that time.
Much of my work has involved players who understand scales and structures but struggle to shape them into something that feels intentional.
In my sessions, we stay with a single idea until it begins to speak clearly. The goal is not to add more, but to help what is already present find direction.
If this way of thinking about improvisation resonates with you, you are welcome to join this session.
